Squirrel problem ?

There is at least one squirrel occupying a nest in a tree opposite 97/96 Rope St. I am on the top floor and I frequently see it on my balcony from which it then makes its way onto the roof, and recently I think I have been hearing  it there too. I dont desperately want to persecute the  animal(s), but I have been advised that they can do a lot of damage to roofs especially once they inevitably start to breed.

Need we be worried and perhaps nip this problem in the bud ?

I would be interested to know what sort of roofs they damage and how? Hopefully they are not going to nest inside the roof as they do not have folding bones like mice. I have seen mice coming out of the roof space and I am afraid that they have probably found a way in through the drainage ducts, so you need to keep cleaning up food.
