I feel such an idiot. There it was and because it was covered, like a child of, 2 I overlooked it.
Incidentally I have just bought a lighting chimney from Weber. For a professional barbeque technique, you light the coals in the chimney and when they are white you pour them out into the fire grate, preferably on one side so that some of the meat can be cooked without being over the coals. Then you cook mainly with the lid on. Give it a try!
