    Hi Simon,

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I did report it to Wood Management on Monday but nothing has transpired since as the door is still not closing correctly. It's in the West car park, but i believe there is more then the one door that is broken.

    Cheers,
    Daymo.

This doesn't bode well for Talk Talks overall service levels.

Hi Daymo and welcome to the forum.

This is a good point about the door and thus I was wondering if you had reported it to Wood management?  Also is this problem in the East or West carpark?

    Hi James,

How did you divert the feed from your room to the lounge as I would also like to have Sky+ installed?

The thought of a long cable running from the bedroom to the living room is ghastly.

    Cheers,
    Damian.

I'd be happy if they could just fix the doors heading down into the garage's. Sticking up a printed piece of paper saying 'Please make sure the door is closed behind you' is hardly going to make anyone who doesn't own a bicycle take the time to turn around and pull the door shut. More often than not I return home from work and the door is  not closed properly.

This may indeed be the reason someone managed to get into the garage and attempt to cut through my bike chain to steal it last week Wednesday.

    Hi Chris,
Yes I would certainly complain to Talk Talk as that is a very poor connection speed.  They will ask you to check your connection speed through the master socket, with the face plate removed to ensure that its not a problem with the internal wiring.  You might want to check to see what your modem as actually connecting at too as the download speed is always lower than the connection speed. Personally I think that there has been a significant reduction in the broadband service in the area recently.  I am hoping to get a reply from BT with regards to this during the week and will let you know what I find out.

Further to the discussions on this topic at last night's AGM (which, by the way, I thought was a good meeting, reminiscent of the quarterly Residents' Association Meetings of the olden days), the laminated RQ information sheet does indeed say that “Cyclists are not permitted to store bicycles in the common stairway/hall“.

Faced with two definite evils, however, I remain slightly concerned as to the impact of a strictly enforced ban on the state of decoration of the stairwell walls and carpets in particular, to the extent that residents choose instead to store their bikes in their flats.

On the other hand, the fact that the garage is now considered a potentially safer storage area than the entrance halls ought to come as good news to cyclists.

At what time is this evening's AGM, please? I know it is in the papers which were circulated to us some time ago, but unfortunately I have left the papers at home and was planning to pick them up before heading for the Moby Dick.

    Thank you very much.

    Hi Chris,

I had a problem with my broadband a month back and had the engineer round.  He said that I was lucky to be getting 2.8 MBps on my 8Meg BT service.  After checking all the connections he left and over the last couple of weeks my speed has steadily increased from a sub 500kbps to the fairly constant 1.4Mbps.  I have written a letter to BT asking for an explination as to why our speed is so low and to enquire as to what effect the timetabled 21CN (21st century network) upgrade to our exchange (bermondsey) due in Qtr4 2008 will have on our service.  If and when I get a reply back I will give you a further update.  In the mean time a handy speed test utility can be found here http://www.speedtest.net
    All the best.

The issue of bikes in the communal areas is I am sure going to be up for discussion at the AGM, especially as the internal decoration is due.  The security of the garages has been greatly improved.  When the security was a problem I had both 2 bicycles stolen and a car vandalised.  I still store my bicycle in the garage and can see no reason why everybody else cannot do the same.  If all residents stored bicycles in the communal areas we wouldn’t be able to get up and down the stairs, it’s a simple as that.

    James,

Thanks for replying. I am looking at Sky HD and I understand from Sky it merely requires the same dual feed as the sky+ service (as I believe the HD service is transmitted along with the normal digital feed).

Diverting the cable from the bedroom does seem to be the simplest option.

    Thanks for your help.

This has indeed come up before when Sky+ was first introduced and it is correct that you need a double-feed. The only way you can get the double-feed is:

    1.  Get your own dish (which is a no go)
    2.  Get an additional feed through to your flat (impractical and VERY expensive as cabling would have to be routed somehow)
    3.  Re-route the bedroom feed into your lounge

I went for the nice and easy 3rd option (Sky+ not HD) and it works fine. I then have a video-sender to send the signal back into the bedroom which works fairly well.

    Simon,

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

I have just received a response from the managing who say that, although the system in the block is set up for the standard sky service, some residents have paid for their individual flats to be upgraded by a sky engineer.

I think this is the best option for me, but your idea of running a cable from the bedroom socket is also a good one and I will look into that.

    Thanks for your help,

    Russ
